Living Glossary

This glossary serves as a living reference designed to provide clear definitions and explanations for the key terms, concepts, and entities within the world of Holdara. As the story, mechanics, and understanding of this universe evolve, so too will this glossary. Contributions, refinements, and expansions are always welcome to ensure it remains accurate, relevant, and comprehensive. Whether you're a newcomer seeking clarity or a veteran revisiting the details, this glossary is here to guide you through the rich tapestry of Holdara.

C…

Celestial Tower: Located at the center of the Holdara game world, the remains of one of two mighty towers that powered Lightstar. The other tower is now within the Nanovoid and so known only in legend (Tower of Daimons).

Celestials: Forerunner race who created Holdara and the Holdarans themselves.

D…

Daimons: Ancient enemy of the Celestials, and in Holdaran myth, the origin of the Nanovoid.

Dark Particles: Part of the “exotic matter” isolated in ill-fated experiments by Celestials.

Darkstar: A super-massive galactic core black hole. The power source for Holdara itself used to rip a hole in the fabric of space-time called Lightstar.

E…

Elemental climates: Regions with a mix of two adjacent elements.

Elemental enemies: Multi-component creatures with differing alignments.

Elemental Gems: Crystals used to generate elemental effects, usually in conjunction with Glowstones.

Elemental influence: Effects on creatures or items from spending time in a particular climate.

Elemental weapons/armor: Gear with pure elemental alignments.

Elements: Effects caused by Celestial machinery. The four elements are Pyro (hot), Aqua (cold), Spark (electricity/life), and Blight (poison/decay). Each element has an associated color: yellow (fire), blue (ice), red (blight), and green (energy/life).

G…

Glowstones: Sources of magical energy. Formed by the Nanovoid compacting captured Light found within Shadow Wraiths. Act as general power and energy sources, like magical batteries.

Guardians: Eight Celestial scientists left to run Holdara. Killed by dark particles released by their experiments in an event called Forsaking. Revered by most Holdarans as gods.

H…

Hard Light: Solid forms of elemental light energy formed from the power generated by Glowstones tuned with Elemental Gems.

Heliolith: Name for the “exotic materials” that coat the entire inner surface of Holdara.

Hexalith: Celestial-built superstructure of Holdara itself.

Holsh/REALM: Mixture of Light and Dark particles that forms a crust on Spires when fully charged. Needed for powerful magic like creating Immortals or indestructible Legendary Items (LEGIs).

Holdara: Artificial world created by Celestials to open a Lightstar to another dimension. Its purpose was to mine "exotic material" to enhance their civilization’s capabilities.

I…

Immortals/Holdaran NFTs: Holdarans from the 3rd Era who have combined their Soul Stones with Holsh. They can regenerate upon destruction at their Soul Stone.

L…

Light Bridge: Walkway connecting Lighthaven to the mainland.

Lighthaven: Starting location for all new Immortals. An ancient facility at the foot of Celestial Tower. Contains a site allowing Holsh to create Immortals from Soul Stones. No Shadow Wraiths can survive here. It is safe but limited in space and natural resources.

Lightstar: Gateway to another dimension. Drew through "exotic material" and hard light, including “dark particles” of the Nanovoid.

N…

Nanovoid: Hive mind of dark particles animated by the corrupted lifeforce of absorbed Celestials.

O…

Otherworld: Holdaran term for the mysterious world encountered underground (within Holdara's superstructure). Believed to be the origin of the Nanovoid.

S…

Shadow Wraiths: Corrupted recreations of alien flora and fauna generated by the Nanovoid. The Nanovoid forms Glowstones used to animate these entities.

Simulacra: Corrupted Wraith forms of Celestial Guardians that the Nanovoid can create to infiltrate and control Celestial facilities.

Soul Stones: One per Immortal, regenerating them upon death. Corporeal remains (like bones) of dead Holdarans in Lighthaven can combine with newly found Stones and Holsh to revive Holdarans. Older stones require more resources to revive. @Gavin Rummery is this right still?

Spires: Light/power generators for settlements that hold back the Nanovoid. Celestial Tower serves as their light source. Spires act as a power grid and need constant maintenance with Glowstones to stay operable.
