Holdaran Capabilities

The capabilities of Holdarans are determined by “SAS”:

  • Skills - nurture; must be learnt and then proficiency gained to improve them. The character’s base stats feed into these skills, for example take two characters with the same proficiency, the one with the better intrinsic stats will have the edge.

  • Attributes - nature; a base set of intrinsic stats for each Holdaran that represent their natural abilities. These will be randomized on creation and then never change, though equipped “bio-augmentations” can apply modifiers.

  • Statuses - this covers variable attributes such as health and magical modifiers that change over time.

Attribute Pairs

  • Intrinsic attributes of the Holdaran are paired, so no character can be maxed out in all stats.

  • In Holdara attributes are used instead of "character classes".

  • There are 16 possible combinations on attribute extremes, which will result in characters with dramatically different capabilities.

  • Attributes are percentages. Paired stats add up to 100, with a limit of 0-100 (i.e. for one pair to be 100 the other must be 0).

Health Pair

Being: sprint vs marathon

  • Augmentation Efficiency [AUG] (stamina): overdrive recharge rate; recovery - Health, Resilience, Resist (debuff statuses)

  • Cybernetic Processing [CYB] (speed): base attack rate - Burst, Metabolism, Vitality

Physical Pair

Acting: attack (offense) vs defense

  • Synchronization Energy [SYN] (dexterity): dodging damage; defense; climb obstacles - Climb, Dodge, Jump, Run

  • Reactor Power [POW] (strength): deal damage; attack; smash obstacles - Brace, Carry, Mining, Smite

Ability Pair

Feeling: close vs ranged

  • Sensor Attunement [SEN] (sense): melee combat; fast reactions; dodge traps - Attack (melee), Block, Spot

  • Technomancy [TEC] (focus): ranged combat; careful aiming; disarm traps, hacking - Aim (missiles), Conceal, Hack, Seal/Unseal

Mind Pair

Knowing: mage vs artisan

  • Biomech Synergy [BIO] (alchemy): overdrive cooldown rate; potion ability; book learning – Alchemy, Channel, Magery, Scan

  • Mechanical Affinity [MEC] (crafting): stagger/shield recovery rate; practical ability/knowledge - Craft, Sneak, Lock/Unlock, Disarm Traps

Attribute Affinities

Holdarans are bio-mechs: a biological coating over a mechanoid chassis / frame. In each attribute pair, one is associated with the “mech” part of their nature, and the other with the “bio” aspect. In addition, attributes have affinities with particular biomes and elements.
